Happy new year 2009..! 31 Dec 2008: New Year's is the only holiday that celebrates the passage and transition of time. Perhaps that's why, as the final seconds of the year tick away, we become introspective and excited , that introspection turns to thoughts of self-improvement and the annual ritual of making resolutions, which offer the first of many important tools for developing ourselves!" The challenge is how to make firm resolutions, set challenging goals, and develop detailed action plans for their accomplishment that will enable us to have the best year of our lives. New year resolution should be like a vision to experience a compelling future , and in the process, create a brighter life. A set of resolutions that one is committed to achieve, will demonstrate how dreams become reality. Indeed the new year is a special time for us , to set new landmarks and achieve them. It's a time to party but also ponder what were we doing last year and who were we when we were at this spot and where do we want to see ourselves when we get back here again in the next year. This year many things have happened credit crunch, unemployment, terror acts and next year is like a hope that things will change. But from where does this all start. It starts from within us. From a simple thought, an act or a dream. A real resolution can only be measured by action. If we haven't taken action we haven't resolved at all. In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our actions. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently. It is not what we get. But who we become, what we contribute... that gives meaning to our lives. Once we have mastered time, we will understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year - and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade! Wish you all a very happy new year 2009. May this year bring in Joy and prosperity to all of us. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “A horse knows when you know and he knows when you don’t.”
07 March 2008: Was enjoying a cup of coffee with my friend and having conversations about daily stuff. During our conversation she said that a horse knows whether a rider sitting on its back is confident or not. If not the horse will simply throw it off its back, if the rider is confident it will let it ride. A powerful thought and a fact. We all have heard about this saying “If wishes were horses beggars would ride”. What if dreams were really horses and they knew whether the person dreaming it is really confident or not? If the person is really confident then the dream would let itself come true if not it will break it into pieces. It sums up to the law of attraction. Thoughts become reality. Having a dream and believing in it are two different things. I need to really believe in my dreams that I can make it come true just like a rider who needs to really believe that he can ride the horse. Look at any successful person. Edison believed he can make a bulb, Ambani believed he can create a business empire, Bill gates believed he can make computer be in every home… I think we can conclude by saying “A dream knows when you know you can, and, when you know you cant” – Manjeet Singh 07 March 2008
It's not hard to be original, as long as you're being yourself
22nd Feb 2008: An amazing thought written in 2008 by S. Beaman. Isn’t it so very true. If we look around us every thing is giving the same message. “So what if you are the prince of wales, I am me and I am the best”. Just take a walk around a street, all the shopping malls around us, their names, their logos, their brands, their prices, their look all are trying to have unique look, a look that shows they are themselves. Walk into an ASDA store the look of the store, the way the support staff approaches is different from the way it will in Tesco or Marks and Spencer. Walk into a MC Donald, the menu and the interior, the service is different than in burger king or in pizza hut. They may be selling the same Vanilla ice cream but they will give it a different name and different look. They are trying to be unique, not even close to what other competitors are like. If we study any religion, all of them have their own tradition and values to maintain it and put the message through, though the message is same but all of them pray and display their identity in a unique manner. Trying to be themselves. We as humans, the one with power to think, all have dreams, and we always say “I want to be like Mr. X or Miss. Y”. I want to be a cricketer like Don Bradman, I want to be a rich person like Bill gates. Very rarely do we say I want to be a cricketer like me, defining our own performance and then achieving it. While trying to see ourselves in others shoes or others place there is a risk that we may get so much influenced that we forget that we are not going to go through what bill gates or Don Bradman went through. Hence our plan of action needs to be different and also the output will not be the same it might be similar in its basic essence but there will be a difference in the cosmetic look of it. The best way to do is to take them as motivating factors and define ourselves and our dreams rather than try and take their place. Think it this way there are so many kabab shops selling the same tasting kebab, in the same looking hotel, at the same prices. If even one tries to be themselves, defines itself despite the fact it will be still selling kebabs, it might turn out to compete Mc Donald or pizza hut. The world around us, religion, commercial shops, everything has its own unique look, they are themselves, and how hard is it for us to be ourselves. Want to be original, be your self, Don’t replicate others, get motivated by others....
Duncan in Dragons Den 22nd Feb 2008: I recently finished reading the book Duncan Bannatyne… Anyone can do it. An amazing, awesome, inspiring story of Duncan’s Success journey in his own words. He is one of the business dragon in dragon’s den. From an ice cream seller to opening a chain of health clubs, he has gone a long way and there will be more to come. His attitude towards business and his operational strategy gave him the perfect results he wanted. Again it’s evident from his life that no matter where we are and who we are if we decide.. anything is possible. In his 30’s sitting at a shore one day he decided he wants to be a millionaire and in the next few years he became. With no MBA degree of sorts, No back up from anyone, it was purely his belief in himself and his dreams and his principle of doing things the right and fair way helped him make his dream come true. He joined the Royal Navy as a stoker but was Court Marshalled after four years for attempting to throw his commanding officer off the side of an aircraft carrier for a £10 bet and he subsequently spent nine months in a navy jail. And after that he started a journey that took him to places and made all his dreams come true. Old age care homes, Day care centre, ice cream , radio channel, hotels, health clubs, investment, he has been in every business where he believed there is profit and money to get to his dream. I liked one of his quotes the most “You only live once. If you don't enjoy it, it's your fault, nobody else's”. A wonderful and a factual thought. How often we complaint about life. We hate our job and put blame on our boss. We see a huge credit card bill and put the blame on credit card privder for over charging. Mortages become difficult to pay and we blame the economy and increasing rates. The fact we were very much active participant when those events occurred and our presence made a difference is undeniable. We pick up the job, We use the credit card, we pick up that mortage. Taking responsibility of our lives and doing what really makes us happy is the key here. Our today is the result of our choices and action we took yesterday… Dreams are those that don’t let us sleep.… 2nd Dec 2007: I had heard a wonderful quote from someone and it got me excited.. What we see during sleep are not dreams.. Dreams are those that don’t let us sleep. In my life personally I have seen a lot dreams and that don’t let me sleep and made them true as well. Another of them came true.. Sometimes unexpected.. And where you would least expect it. I have always had a passion for music. Performing on stage is something I cherish. Over the years I have been in debates, dance, acting, and compeering. To play an instrument on stage was something I always wanted to do. Since childhood I have had fascination for Dhol (Punjabi drums). Its sound, its power and intensity is something that amazed me. I always wanted to learn an instrument. I have learned a bit of key board and bit of guitar but not enough to be able to perform on stage. My dreams and career is taking me places and I finally landed in UK. Passions that I had for years, an instrument that I liked when I was 4 years old, believe it or not I was learning it here in UK. Under the guidance of an excellent teacher and the dream in my mind to play something once on stage made my focus stronger. Dreams make you practise, and Practise makes you better… Finally on 21oct during a party in our company (pic of the party on the right hand side..) I had that platform to make my dream come true... to play a musical instrument on stage. That very feeling of doing something that you always wanted to do… after having tried to learn a number of instruments a number of times; finally I learned a totally unexpected instrument and an instrument that I really loved….and the yes the opportunity didn’t come my way, it was always there waiting to be grabbed… Finally I believe dreams don’t come true, yes you heard it right. Dreams never come true. We need to make them happen. Only we can know what we want and only we can make sure we get what we want…after all its about LUCK.. Labour Under Correct Knowledge.. For those who have dreams that dont let them sleep.. go out and create the way and get there.. you will cherish the day you achieve it.. dont give up.. jsut give in all you can..
Success and happiness 4th Nov 2007: Success and happiness go hand in hand or not is a question which many a times is debated by many of us. I was having the same discussion with one of my friends. What he described to me made sense and thought of sharing it with all of you as well. He said the journey to success should be filled with happiness. Makes perfect sense. Come to think of it, success is nothing but reaching a landmark and then setting eye on another landmark and moving ahead to achieve another landmark and another success. The only constant thing with us is in this cycle of achieving landmarks and succeeding or failing is the journey. That very journey to achieve the set landmark and succeeding should be filled with happiness. Only then we can have success and happiness togther. For a salesman achieving his set target is success but did he have fun while selling is the real question. I think the fact is journey is more important than success. If you enjoy the journey success would always be there, satisfaction would always be there. The only way to be happy during the journey is to do what you like to do.. Listening to the heart as successful people always say is the key to success and happiness... Imagination: Power to think 4th Nov 2007: Have you ever seen that some successful people or people who have the power to attract others are often termed as Gift of God. Gift of God, Makes me think, we all are gifted and the biggest gift we have is the power to think and imagine. I have always admired the tag line of Honda “The power of Imagination”. It's this thinking power that made us turn a rolling stone to a bullock cart, to a scooter, a car, a bus, a truck, a plane and super sonic jet and a rocket and ofcourse a baby walker as well…..the power of imagination is amazing it can convert a rolling stone that rolls from top of mountain into a rocket than can reach up the moon. I was having a conversation with one of my friends and she said we should thank god for whatever he has given us today. An instant thought came to my mind. We should thank god for giving us the power to think. It is this thinking power that helps us control our destiny. Had we never had the thinking power our destiny would have been in someone elses control. Each one of as human are gifted with power to think and we need to do justice to that gift . Its our thinking power that helps us recognize that gift and make our own destiny. Heres the perspective. Every morning we have the power to decide what time we wake up, we have the power to decide what to do today, we cant control time but we can decide to manage it. and if we can manage time, actions and our plans, guess what..... we can make our own destiny. Because time, actions and plans are few factors which shape our destiny. If we want to recognize the gift and make things the way we want the first step is to IMAGINE… the power of imagination….
Synergy of Sharing…. 20th Oct 2007: We talk a lot about sharing ideas and views with others. If we observe small kids share ideas with each other or with anyone with a lot of excitement. They would never think as to what they say is possible or not, they share it with full belief and excitement. Once while walking on high street in Hounslow (London) I saw a small kid holding a Spiderman toy in his hand. He looked at his dad and said “Dad I am going to be a Spiderman when I grow up..” and his dad said “yeah son you sure will be” and the smile on the kids face was a moment to capture. How often when we grow up we stop sharing or rather start keeping our dreams and goals to ourselves. May be because we are afraid of what others will say or may be because we just don’t want to share it. Looking at it in a different perspective… if we dared to share our dreams with others & if even one person responds and believes in our vision the energy to achieve it increases. There would be people who might laugh at us. The beauty of believing in your dreams and declaring it to others is like burning your bridge and assuring yourself that you will make it. That small kid believed that he could become a Spiderman and shared it with his dad. If he did not believe it he would have never shared it with him. The question about "do I believe in my dreams?" and daring to share it with others is an assurance to myself that I will make them true… after all sharing our dreams helps increase our vision and bring more clarity in what we want to do….dreams are achieved by walking together with people .. Sharing it with them makes belief stronger and increases level of energy a step further…. Towards.. Synergy….
